They were either very poor quality, very narrowly focused on one region, or so commercial that small dive shops and local diving weren't represented. I wanted a site that would provide a way for divers to share information about local and worldwide diving in enough detail that you could, say, take your own boat to a dive site. Or, if you wanted to use a dive operator, that you could ask other divers who the best ones are, instead of relying on ads. So, I teamed up with another software developer and friend, dave, to produce this site. Here you can share information and find out about different dive sites and dive operators from those who really know, the divers! Favorite Places to Dive I have to say, my favorite dive trip was the Rum Runner live-aboard in the Coral Sea in Australia. Robin and I went there in 1999/2000 over the new year, and spent some time on Dunk Island, then took the Rum Runner for 5 days out to Holmes Reef. The boat was...spartan...(it is much less expensive than the other liveaboards in the area), but the crew was great and the diving was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, this was before we got our underwater housing for our still camera, so I don't have any high quality photos. But we did have a very simple "Mini-Cam Sub" for our video camera, and got some good video, especially of the shark feed dive Predator Playground. I'll be uploading the video soon. My favorite site was Nonki, but I don't have any pictures of that... My Gear Reg: Atomic Aquatics with brass first stage and titanium second stage, Scuba Pro octopus BC: Genesis Phantom with integrated weights (which fall out if you put in more than 5 pounds...) Computer: Oceanic XTC-100 Fins: Mares Wetsuits: Henderson I use a Nikon 880 digital camera with an Ikelite housing and DS-50 strobe. I've been really happy with the whole kit. We also have a "mini-cam sub" which is a much more affordable housing for a video camera. It's about $300 instead of the $1500+ for a more sophisticated housing. Basically, it's just a acrylic tube that opens on one end. You put your camera on "record", and put it in the housing (padding it with foam), and your all set. No access to controls underwater, but that's what makes it so inexpensive.
